Kin-O.org has started to create a collection of Pinterest Boards on World Cinema stars who are famous in their countries, but not necessarily known to the worldwide public (with the exception of some, like Gael García Bernal). This is in a tongue-in-cheek effort to combat the unbeatable flow of Hollywood-images on the Internet. At the same time, the boards might raise interest towards the artist’s work – and world cinema in general!
The posters in Paris say “more than 250,000 viewers already”. That might sound negligible for larger film productions, but for a small film from Saudi-Arabia it is quite impressive. A surprise hit in France as well as in other European countries, Wadjda by Haifaa Al Mansour, the first Saudi female filmmaker in history, has charmed critics and viewers alike with a simple yet thought-provoking story.
